Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the party reach areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners groups.
